Siberian Ginseng: The Almost Forgotten, Perfect Adaptogen - Balancer and Energy Booster

Eleuthero...the root of this plant helps provide the long term energy and the ability to cope with very difficult stress that is so often needed in many everyday walks of life...  a powerful tonic for energy and stress without the word "Ginseng" on the label so its use was successfully "swept under the rug" as a popular, and effective, energy tonic.

by Christopher Gussa

For some reason, lately, Eleutherococcus (Siberian Ginseng) has almost vanished from becoming a subject when health tonics for energy and stress issues are discussed. It used to be so common place and for a very good reason; It works!

Why have we almost forgotten about this truly amazing, fast acting, totally safe, and extremely powerful energy booster? I believe a lot of the reason for this is that the FDA had once forced all marketing of this amazing tonic herb to be labeled as "Eleuthero" and to avoid the name of "Siberian Ginseng" on any labels (Siberian Ginseng is much less expensive than Panax Ginseng) Technically this "law" is still in the books.

Many people don't relate to the name "Eleuthero" as a powerful tonic for energy and stress without the word "Ginseng" on the label so its use was successfully "swept under the rug" as a popular energy tonic.
Chalk one up for the FDA on this one; however the purpose of this article is to help undo the harm the FDA has done to healthy energy seeking consumers.

In Brief: What is EFT?

What is  Emotional Freedom Tapping (EFT)

In brief, Emotional Freedom Technique or Tapping is a powerful stress relief process or tool combining psychology with ancient healing arts. – Specific acupuncture points on the face and torso are gently tapped while being tuned into a PROBLEM that needs clearing from your energy system. – The problem may be anything that needs clearing from your energy system.
  • An emotion
  • An event or trauma
  • A symptom in your body
The emotional and energetic releases brought about by EFT frequently result in profound healing within the mind, body or spirit.

The Best Exercise for Holistic Health, Detox, Weight-loss & Fitness!

We all have aspirations of becoming fitter, leaner and stronger, and bursting with health and energy and in choosing a life of wellness, I encourage wholeness, oneness, and completion in all endeavours, where possible.

To be effective and truly holistic while improving your lifestyle it requires that your undertaking to achieve a better, healthier life, touches all aspects of your life, otherwise it is not whole and it won’t feel complete! This especially important when one embarks upon effective detoxification. And exercise is a valuable part of detoxification.
It’s important to find something you enjoy doing and to vary the type of exercise so that you cover these three basic aspects:

·        Stamina building – i.e. aerobic exercise, dance

·        Stretching – for flexibility, i.e yoga

·        Strengthening – weight bearing activity, i.e. weight training
If you want to feel fitter, lose extra pounds and burn up some excess energy or  you feel you need more energy to get you through each day, walking every day is a low-impact exercise that will do it

Healing Starts with Breathing

Practicing Conscious Breathing

To answer the first question of my previous post, by training ourselves to breath effectively, we re-program our involuntary system to adopt this new way of breathing until it becomes you.  Want to try it?

First, lie down on your back, relaxed, with hands and legs outstretched and eyes looking up at the ceiling or sky (if you are outside). Gently close your eyes and relax, breathing only through your nose.

Step 1: Abdominal breathing

Observe your natural breath. You will notice that as you inhale the abdomen rises and then falls with exhalation. Watch this for a few moments to check this flow. Now begin to deepen, lengthen and extend that movement. That is, while inhaling, let the abdomen rise to its limit and at exhalation let it fall completely. Keep the chest still during this entire process – only move the abdomen. Continue this for 20 breaths and then rest.

Step 2: Thoracic (chest) breathing

Again observe your normal breath, this time focusing your attention on the chest. You will notice the chest moving slightly up at inhalation and down with exhalation. Again observe this pattern for a few moments. Now again, begin to deepen, lengthen and extend that movement. This time, on inhalation expand and lift the rib cage, filling the lungs completely. Then on exhalation, let the lungs collapse fully, sinking to the limits. In this step, keep the abdomen still, moving only the chest. Do this for 20 breath cycles and then stop.

Step 3: Conscious breathing

This combines the above 2 steps in the following way: First inhale by filling the abdomen and then CONTINUE inhaling as you expand and fill the chest. Then exhale first from the chest as it empties and falls and then CONTINUE exhaling from the abdomen as it draws inwards completely. This is one round of the full conscious breath. Repeat this for 20 rounds.

Remember the pattern… Inhaling - abdomen then chest; Exhaling – chest then abdomen.

GOLDEN RULE: All of the above steps should be done WITHOUT strain. The natural tendency is to heave with effort. The right way is to make it smooth and effortless. Go slow and easy.

Initially you will experience unevenness or bumps in this breathing process – as if there are 4 separate parts to the full conscious breath. This is natural considering the years we have spent breathing unconsciously.

 Application Suggestions
  • Health maintenance: 6 to 10 repetitions 2 to 3 sessions per day.

  • Health enhancement: 6 to 10 repetitions 4 to 6 sessions per day.

  • Disease intervention: Start slowly and build up to 15 to 20 repetitions 10 to 15 sessions per day.

  • Getting started: 2 to 3 repetitions, once or twice per day.

HEALability & Yoga

Stress Ah kill me!
part 2- How to Relieve Stress in the Body

by Tekhiyah
April/May 2011 (Business Focus Antigua)

This practice changed my life! Talk about “back to the middle”... I found my centre – it was gone for so long...pulled to extremes, this way and that...never resolving the stress of it all ...the trauma, the pain, the depression, the hurts, the disappointment...buried deep within... creating locks, blocks and stops to achieving the desired dreams of fulfilment ...but then I discovered how to relieve the stress...

It transformed me the first day I did it! No longer stuck, energy began to flow through me; I felt alive; balanced – for the first, in a long time. The oneness I had been seeking was restored to the temple of my mind, body and spirit within 60 minutes of practice! Just one week after daily practice, I received comments on how peaceful and relaxed I looked...the outward manifestation of exactly how I felt.

It all began in prayer and meditation. In prayer, I asked the question, “If I truly love myself, what should I do for myself?” In meditation the answer came... regular exercise – the health habit some find the hardest to follow. Despite their best intentions, most people allow exercise to fall by the wayside when life gets busy or stressful — which is all the time!!!

Stress simply disturbs our personal balance. When our physical safety or emotional equilibrium is threatened, the body's defences trigger a rapid, automatic process known as the stress response. This chemical alarm releases a flood of stress hormones, including adrenaline, norepinephrine, and cortisol which race through the bloodstream. Any anxiety, worry or stress causes higher or faster brain waves to occur, increasing the pounding of your heart, tensing up muscles, and hastening breathing in readiness for “fight-or-flight”. The more cortisol produced, the more stressed you feel, the more vulnerable you are to disease and, the faster you age. Prolonged exposure to stress increases your risk of everything ... from heart disease, obesity, infection, constipation, anxiety, infertility, skin outbreaks, constipation, depression, to cancer. Mental, emotional and physical stress deposits itself within as blocked energy.

Stress can cause widespread damage, so it is essential to learn how to deal with stress to positively reduce its impact on your daily life.

Regular physical exercise is one of the most effective ways of relieving stress. For over a year, I’d been failing to motivate myself to reactivate this much needed energy cycle within. So last summer began by acknowledging the small voice I heard; show self-love by exercising regularly again.

The first exercise I chose left me feeling insane! No joke! I stepped into a 6-day-a-week challenge not knowing what I’d got myself into! I felt insanely exhausted every time I attempted this insanely challenging body sculpting method! It did make me stronger as I pushed myself to complete the first 30-days, I admit, but the six-days-a week whittled down to two or three over the next 30-day challenge.

YOU CAN DO IT!!! No...I can’t...and it’s okay!!!

Before the 60-days were up, I knew there had to be a better way for me to love myself. The insanity I experienced was just a bit too much for me... it was adding pressure not relieving it. I need something a little less taxing on the mind-body-spirit continuum, please! I lost a few inches yes, but my weight stayed the same. After weighing myself, I had to also weigh my options.

Ahhh(sigh)... what to do? ...The small voice said, try yoga...
